Thank you for your interest in supporting the first-ever U.S. Virgin Islands Inaugural Ball, which will be held in Washington, DC on January 20, 2009.
After elections in November 2008, VIID submitted a request seeking official designation for the U.S. Virgin Islands Inaugural Ball. Official designation of an inaugural event paves the way for attendance by President-Elect and Mrs. Obama. Subsequent to VIID’s submission, a directive was issued that no inaugural event staged by an ethnic group (i.e. Caribbean American, African American, Hispanic American, Native American, Italian American, etc.) would receive official designation. The U.S. Virgin Islands Inaugural Ball does not fall under the directive.
